Where to Give

Below is a list of funding priorities that can only be realized through private support. We appreciate your interest and can help tailor your gift to a specific area or initiative.

Professional Theatre Training Program
Our graduate students have embarked on a unique partnership with the Alley Theatre. In order to attract the top talent in the nation, we offer stipends and tuition waivers to each class of 16 – 20 graduate students. This type of support puts us directly in competition with the top 10% of theatre training programs in America.

Production Season
With four main stage shows, four MFA Studio shows, two dance shows, and two theatre for young audiences shows, we offer many production opportunities for our students to directly apply what they learn in class. The cost of our season is not covered by tuition or fees, so we rely on foundations, corporate underwriting and patron donations to support this valuable part of our mission.

Theatre for Young Audiences
In Fall 2008 we launched our TYA program, which offers relevant theatre for 4th – 8th graders and is a resource for teachers since the productions are during the school year. In 2009 we will expand the program to two productions, one of which will tour HISD schools.

Dance Division
Each year our dance division produces two shows for the School's production season. Our pre-professional company, the UH Dance Ensemble, performs at the American College Dance Festival, the Miller Outdoor Theatre Weekend of Contemporary Dance, and in site-specific works around Houston. The Center for Choreography teaches cutting-edge classes in dance composition, aesthtics, and craft. We offer the only Dance degree program in Houston and our alumni have careers across the country.

Houston Shakespeare Festival
For over 30 years, this Houston summer tradition has brought the Bard to the masses. Over 500,000 people have enjoyed these free performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre and for many it was their first introduction to live theatre. Each summer two shows are produced with support provided by our School's scene and costume shops, administrative staff, and student workers.
